Recipe: Snow Day Hot Chocolate

Today has been the epitome of a perfect snow day in Boulder Colorado. Huge flakes continue to fall even now, turning my little condo courtyard into a wintery snow globe.

The rack of lamb planned for class will still be there on Monday. But two feet of fresh snow warrants skis and snowboards, shovels and sleds, dogs in doggie parkas eager to brave the block. And hot chocolate. Definitely hot chocolate.

The following is a favorite recipe passed along by prior students at Escoffier. Cozy up and enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 cup nonfat dry milk
1 cup sugar
½ cup confectioners’ sugar
½ cup cocoa
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method:

Combine all ingredients together in a bowl and store in a sealable container. For a quick, delicious winter warmer, mix 2 heaping tablespoons of hot chocolate mix into either 4 oz of hot milk with 4 oz water, or 8 oz hot milk for a richer flavor.
